More than $125,000 was raised from the highly successful eighth annual Rendina Family Foundation "Raising the B.A.R." Bruce A. Rendina Memorial Golf Tournament. The event was held on Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8 at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens.Friday evening's Atlantis Paradise Island Welcome Reception kicked off the event as the more than 130 guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, live entertainment, a raffle and silent auction. More than 100 golfers teed-off bright and early the following morning for a shotgun, scramble golf tournament. The weather was warm and sunny as the golfers completed their rounds and headed in for lunch and awards. Winners of the Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin contests were also announced.At lunch, RFF grant recipient, Dr. Derek Duckett, Ph. D., Associate Professor, Molecular Therapeutics and Associate Director of Translational Research of The Scripps Research Institute in Scripps Florida spoke about the novel research that is taking place at Scripps. They are in the early stages of development of two kinases that inhibit the growth of brain and breast cancer cells with low level of toxicity and side-effects.The event's "Raising the B.A.R." sponsor was Atlantis Paradise Island.
