Saturday, July 25, 2009 hundreds of anglers came out to support Hospice of Palm Beach County during the 10th annual Horizons Fishing Tournament. With 169 registered boats fishing in the tournament, the afternoon was action packed with some of the biggest dolphin, wahoo and kingfish hitting the scales. The 2009 tournament brought in more than $44,000 for Hospice of Palm Beach County’s children’s bereavement programs.

“We are thrilled with the tournament and the support of the community,” said Greg Leach, Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation president. “We know it is tough out there right now, but to see this immense amount of support for our organization is fantastic. We hope everyone had a great time.”

Nineteen-year-old Michael Wood took home the top prize with a 45.6 lb. kingfish. Leach was also thrilled with the amount of fish that were donated for future sales.

“We are proud to announce that more than 1321.8 lbs of fish were donated today. A big thanks goes out to Cod & Capers Market who will sell this donated fish and donate the proceeds back to us!”

Presenting sponsor of the 2009 Horizons Fishing Tournament was The Rendina Family Foundation. To learn more about the Horizons Fishing Tournament, or Hospice of Palm Beach County, visit the Hospice of Palm Beach County’s website or call 561-848-5200.
